Class: Text

PIXI. Text

new PIXI.Text(text, style)

A Text Object will create a line or multiple lines of text. To split a line you can use '\n' in your text string,
or add a wordWrap property set to true and and wordWrapWidth property with a value in the style object.

A Text can be created directly from a string and a style object

var text = new PIXI.Text('This is a pixi text',{font : '24px Arial', fill : 0xff1010, align : 'center'});
Name Type Description
text string

The copy that you would like the text to display

style object optional

The style parameters

Name Type Default Description
font string optional

default 'bold 20px Arial' The style and size of the font

fill String | Number 'black' optional

A canvas fillstyle that will be used on the text e.g 'red', '#00FF00'

align string 'left' optional

Alignment for multiline text ('left', 'center' or 'right'), does not affect single line text

stroke String | Number optional

A canvas fillstyle that will be used on the text stroke e.g 'blue', '#FCFF00'

strokeThickness number 0 optional

A number that represents the thickness of the stroke. Default is 0 (no stroke)

wordWrap boolean false optional

Indicates if word wrap should be used

wordWrapWidth number 100 optional

The width at which text will wrap, it needs wordWrap to be set to true

letterSpacing number 0 optional

The amount of spacing between letters, default is 0

breakWords boolean false optional

Indicates if lines can be wrapped within words, it needs wordWrap to be set to true

lineHeight number optional

The line height, a number that represents the vertical space that a letter uses

dropShadow boolean false optional

Set a drop shadow for the text

dropShadowColor string '#000000' optional

A fill style to be used on the dropshadow e.g 'red', '#00FF00'

dropShadowAngle number Math.PI/4 optional

Set a angle of the drop shadow

dropShadowDistance number 5 optional

Set a distance of the drop shadow

dropShadowBlur number 0 optional

Set a shadow blur radius

padding number 0 optional

Occasionally some fonts are cropped on top or bottom. Adding some padding will
prevent this from happening by adding padding to the top and bottom of text height.

textBaseline string 'alphabetic' optional

The baseline of the text that is rendered.

lineJoin string 'miter' optional

The lineJoin property sets the type of corner created, it can resolve
spiked text issues. Default is 'miter' (creates a sharp corner).

miterLimit number 10 optional

The miter limit to use when using the 'miter' lineJoin mode. This can reduce
or increase the spikiness of rendered text.

Extends

Members

alphanumber

The opacity of the object.

anchorPIXI.Point

The anchor sets the origin point of the texture.
The default is 0,0 this means the texture's origin is the top left
Setting the anchor to 0.5,0.5 means the texture's origin is centered
Setting the anchor to 1,1 would mean the texture's origin point will be the bottom right corner

blendModenumber

The blend mode to be applied to the sprite. Apply a value of PIXI.BLEND_MODES.NORMAL to reset the blend mode.

Default Value:
  • PIXI.BLEND_MODES.NORMAL
See:

cacheAsBitmapboolean

Set this to true if you want this display object to be cached as a bitmap.
This basically takes a snap shot of the display object as it is at that moment. It can provide a performance benefit for complex static displayObjects.
To remove simply set this property to 'false'

cachedTintnumber

An internal cached value of the tint.

Default Value:
  • 0xFFFFFF

canvasHTMLCanvasElement

The canvas element that everything is drawn to

readonlychildrenArray.<PIXI.DisplayObject>

The array of children of this container.

contextHTMLCanvasElement

The canvas 2d context that everything is drawn with

filterAreaPIXI.Rectangle

The area the filter is applied to. This is used as more of an optimisation
rather than figuring out the dimensions of the displayObject each frame you can set this rectangle

filtersArray.<PIXI.AbstractFilter>

Sets the filters for the displayObject.

  • IMPORTANT: This is a webGL only feature and will be ignored by the canvas renderer.
To remove filters simply set this property to 'null'

heightnumber

The height of the Text, setting this will actually modify the scale to achieve the value set

Sets a mask for the displayObject. A mask is an object that limits the visibility of an object to the shape of the mask applied to it.
In PIXI a regular mask must be a PIXI.Graphics or a PIXI.Sprite object. This allows for much faster masking in canvas as it utilises shape clipping.
To remove a mask, set this property to null.

TODO
  • For the moment, PIXI.CanvasRenderer doesn't support PIXI.Sprite as mask.

readonlyparentPIXI.Container

The display object container that contains this display object.

pivotPIXI.Point

The pivot point of the displayObject that it rotates around

positionPIXI.Point

The coordinate of the object relative to the local coordinates of the parent.

renderableboolean

Can this object be rendered, if false the object will not be drawn but the updateTransform
methods will still be called.

resolutionnumber

The resolution of the canvas.

rotationnumber

The rotation of the object in radians.

scalePIXI.Point

The scale factor of the object.

The shader that will be used to render the sprite. Set to null to remove a current shader.

The skew factor for the object in radians.

style

Set the style of the text

text

Set the copy for the text object. To split a line you can use '\n'.

texturePIXI.Texture

The texture that the sprite is using

tintnumber

The tint applied to the sprite. This is a hex value. A value of 0xFFFFFF will remove any tint effect.

Default Value:
  • 0xFFFFFF

visibleboolean

The visibility of the object. If false the object will not be drawn, and
the updateTransform function will not be called.

widthnumber

The width of the Text, setting this will actually modify the scale to achieve the value set

readonlyworldAlphanumber

The multiplied alpha of the displayObject

readonlyworldTransformPIXI.Matrix

Current transform of the object based on world (parent) factors

readonlyworldVisibleboolean

Indicates if the sprite is globally visible.

xnumber

The position of the displayObject on the x axis relative to the local coordinates of the parent.
